It’s January, in case some of you have been hiding underneath your pillows, or forgot.
And true to form, our January is cold, blustery, very wet, and very dark. It’s easy for me to get lethargic and depressed in January. I know that I got pretty close to being very depressed for the first few days.
Thankfully, I am slowly getting smarter in my older age, and I have some tools to draw on. Things like, exercise, seeing my counselor to check in and make sure that I’m as ok as I think I am, eating well, going to bed earlier, planning fun things in my future, and having projects. Feeling directionless is killer for me. While I might not know what my future holds, I can set some small goals to attain, to keep me from going bonkers.
Here’s my list. Since I started it on the 4th, the idea is to have 28 items, and do one thing every day. Do you think I can? With Hoty’s help I can…
1. Make Kombucha Jan. 11
2. Make Sauerkraut in a crock – this will take a dozen heads of cabbage. Both my girls hoover vast quantities of the stuff on a daily basis, so it makes sense to make it. We already go through a head a week in the fermented state. I know, gross…
3. Add a shelf in the linen closet. Jan. 7 – Thanks, Husband.
4. Add a shelf in the games cupboard. Jan. 7 – ditto.
5. Purge the office. Jan. 6
6. Clean the office. Jan. 15
7. Empty out boy’s old room. Jan. 5
8. Clean boy’s old room. Jan. 15
9. Set up boy’s old room as a guest room.
10. Build shelves in boy’s new room for bins.
11. Hang painting.
12. Put away Christmas stuff. Jan. 4th
13. Make hula-hoops. Jan. 4th
14. Find a plant stand.
15. Move all movies to an external drive. – the external drive just died with all the kids movies on it. Can we say ‘Fudge’?
16. Shop at Ikea for bins, and frames.
17. Frame pictures for boys room.
18. Tidy space outside front door.
19. Go through bins of big girl clothing and organize. Jan. 11 – 1 garbage bag for thrift store, two bags to pass on, and everything else organized by child and size!
20. Make hair bands. Jan. 5 – finished them in the evening while watching TLOTR with friends.
21. Pot up Christmas cactus.
22. Pot up snake plant into nicer pot. aka NOT plastic. Jan. 14
23. Clean out cutlery tray, it’s disgusting. Jan. 5 – Hoty
24. Mail a book off. Jan. 10
25. Mail components to an art project off. Jan. 10
26. New curtains for boys.
27. Get CIT pics taken of Miss Joy. Jan. 9
28. Mail off CIT cert. form. Jan. 10
Yes, there will be more than 28 things. Guess I need to start a new list for February.
Ok. All pretty easy, and mundane. Let’s see if we can do it. I’m gonna need me some accountability!

A “Take That” list – love it! In fact, I may borrow the idea
Also, January is gross. I shake my fist at those folks who are escaping to warm and sunny places.

You can do it!!!

I made a list too…. not aspiring to one thing a day, but hoping to cross a couple of biggies off this weekend (paint bedroom, install baseboards in bedroom.) My list is a little depressing since every item involves making a trip to Home Depot or equivalent. (Install door. Frame in window. Install floor trim strips. Etc etc etc.) Good luck with yours!!
